Hollywood and Steroids: When A-List Actors Go the A-Rod Route

It's hard to believe this is something people would be opinionated about. (Kidding.) Josh Gad declared the casting was "genius!" while Richard Dreyfus joked he was up for the role, tweeting: "You read for a part, you feel good about it, you feel confident, then they cast Ben Affleck." Others recommended pairings with old Affleck collaborators, with British actor Robert Kazinsky suggesting Matt Damon for the Joker and film critic Stephen Whitty rather unkindly opiningJennifer Lopez should be cast as Catwoman to "torpedo the whole thing." As for Affleck, he has yet to tweet. But a Ben Affleck Batman parody Twitter account popped up and quickly amassed 12,000 followers. It's been sending messages worthy of a superhero: "I am proud to serve the people of Gotham. And the people are proud to have me." A 2012 study conducted by the University of Minnesota found that teens are using steroids and muscle-enhancing substances at higher rates than previously thought. Nearly 6 percent of boys in the survey reported using steroids, while the rate among girls was 4.6 percent. At least one studio made a conscious effort to keep its leading man squeaky clean. Before Cavill began his grueling five-month preproduction training for Steel, Warner Bros. requested a list of exactly what the training team might ask Cavill to use. Twight gladly complied, given that he believes radical body recomposition can be done naturally when it is guided by experienced trainers and driven by discipline and commitment.
Source:

Entertainment Inc./Courtesy Warner Bros. Entertainm Cloud Atlas was singled out as a rare example of positive inclusion of LGBT characters in GLAADs first ever Studio Responsibility Index. Hollywood studios play it straight a little too straight, a new study has found. GLAAD released its first annual report Wednesday measuring how lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people are represented in film and the numbers are shocking. PHOTOS: NEW YORK CITY GAY PRIDE PARADE 2013 The watchdog group found that of the 101 movies released by the six major studios last year, only 14 of them included LGBT characters. And of those 14 films, only four spotlighted gay, lesbian or bisexual characters that had a substantial role in the story.
Source:

[You need] to have the right tenants and the mall management to ensure the mall functions properly, and having the right tenant mix is really, really important to the work we do. Oftentimes, when 5+design is involved in the early stages of the project, they will bring in consultants or merchandising strategists to plan the retail layout of the environment. I know a lot of these retailers and they know a lot of these retailers, Ellis said. We can also suggest ways to have the retailers contact the clients to see if that might work for that environment. Weve definitely been involved in opening the discussion because there are a lot of retailers who are interested in expanding internationally, Ellis said. The greater the relationship with the retailers, the better, because their goals have really grown and expandedthats really a trend. Retail is something that really does involve not just architecture but all these other elements, view Ellis said. Its not like an office building where you build it and people have to go work there[with] a retail project, people have to want to come. You essentially have to design in a way that brings people just naturally, and you cant bamboozle people with your architectural philosophy, you just have to create environments that they want to go to, and I really like that, Ellis said. To me, its very much like good product design.
Source:

Patent and Trademark Office . The MPAA is questioning how well voluntary initiatives are working when it comes to piracy. The organization is urging the Patent and Trademark office to evaluate the success moved here of piracy prevention by how eagerly Internet companies pursue violations. The MPAA says that the big Internet companies voluntary efforts to fight piracy have been decent, but not the solution the Hollywood industry is looking for. On the other hand, the Internet Association, which is made up of companies like Google, AOL, eBay, Yahoo, and Facebook, are arguing that there are other ways to fight piracy aside from policing it on their sites.
Source:

That partnership is now long dissolved, and the online site rebranded Its true that Hollywoods peculiarities and relationship-driven business deals have flummoxed plenty of other tech firms. Apple has had some minor successes, in part because its co-founder sold Pixar to Disney, whose CEO is now on Apples board (and Steve Jobs widow remains one of Disneys biggest shareholders). But a big win, like building a smart TV or TV appliance that carries all of Hollywoods TV channels, hasnt happened yet, for anyone, despite that interesting Sony-Viacom deal that reportedly is near completion. In the meantime, will Hollywood miss Steve Ballmer?
Source:

For smaller stores, the ban took effect Tuesday. The West Hollywood City Council adopted an ordinance last year prohibiting the 1.9-square-mile city's hundreds of retail stores including pharmacies, supermarkets, clothing stores and newsstands from distributing plastic bags. Farmers markets, restaurants and other food service providers are excluded from the ban. The ban is intended to reduce landfill waste and to encourage residents to shop with reusable bags or paper bags made with recycled materials. Plastic bags are costing us money and filling up landfills, City Councilman Jeffrey Prang, then the mayor, said before the ban was passed. Under the law, stores can provide paper bags made with at least 40% post-consumer content, but must charge 10 cents for each one as an incentive to encourage reusables. Customers who qualify for subsidized groceries aren't required to pay the bag fee.
Source:,0,2660483.story

We are here to celebrate a $147 million investment in Hollywood Beach, Bober said. The road to Margaritaville has been bumpy. The city has tried before to get a project going on the prime piece of real-estate but financing and other factors have gotten in the way. Then in 2010 the commission agreed that Margaritaville was the best fit. But the developers original financing plan to get foreign investment didnt work and there were challenges in getting permits.
Source:
